Notary Public - Ms Jamela A. Ali, was appointed by H.E. President Donald Ramator as a Public Notary for Guyana in the County of Demerara on the 8 day of September 2014.

The appoinment was made in accordance with the Public Notaries Act Cap. 4:02 of The Laws of Guyana Revised Edition LRO 2012, Volume 2 which states in section 2(1) that

"The President may by warrant under his hand and seal appoint a legal practitioner of not less than ten years' standing to be a public notary ...".

Notaries authenticate by their signature and official seal or stamp and certify the due execution in their presence of some deed or document or verify something done in their presence.

Documents required to be notarised include Powers of Attorney and Deed Polls for name change.

Notary Publics charge GY$1000 to notarise a document in Georgetown, Demerara, Guyana.


Ms Jamela A Ali, Attorney at Law, with over 28 years experience, specialises in several areas of Guyana law in the Civil Jurisdiction. She is presently in private practice and provides legal services in Mining Law & Agreements, Property matters, Trademarks, Adoptions of Children, Divorces, Probates of Wills and Administration, Money Claims, and Formation of Companies. She commenced her legal career as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers, Guyana.

Ms Jamela A Ali, has made lead appearances at the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Trinidad and in the Courts of Guyana, Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Judicature, Full Court, High Court (Constitutional & Administrative, Commercial, Family), Land Court, and Magistrates Courts. Ms Jamela A. Ali is also a TradeMark and Patent Designs Agent in Guyana.

Ms. Jamela A. Ali holds a Masters of Law degree in Legislative Drafting from UWI, Barbados, which included the Public Law courses of Constitutional and Administrative Law and wrote a Research Paper on Legislative Drafting, Parliamentary Counsel, Statute Law Revision, Consolidation of Laws, Law Reform, Constitution, Natural Justice, and Good Administration. Services are provided with regard to to the review of Acts and subsidiary legislation.

Ms Jamela A Ali is a Trained Mediator and a Mediation Trainer and provides Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution services for the settlement of disputes. She is a Director and Past President of the Mediation Institute of Guyana Inc. (MIG). As President, she initiated and managed the successful holding of the first Mediation Conference with an international presenter and the Chancellor of the Judiciary of Guyana.

Ms. Ali is the author of articles on Adoption of Children laws, Constitutional law, Administrative Law - Duty to Give Reasons, Legislative Drafting, Law Revision, Legal Practitioners Committee and Mediation, which have been published in the New Guyana Bar Review, Caribbean Law Review, Guyana Chronicle, Stabroek News newspapers, the Al Bayan and on websites. She has also delivered speeches on Constitutional Law Reform, Human Rights, Legislative Drafting, Mediation and Family and Matrimonial laws relating to Children & Women and appeared on National Television.
