Mediator Profile Ms. Jamela A. Ali is a trainer Mediator providing mediation services. Since her appointment as a Mediator in 2003 by the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana, she has successfully conducted several court connected and other mediations, negotiations and facilitations involving family members, Guyana and international Companies and Guyanese. Matters mediated include property disputes, mining law disputes, division of property, slander, religious disputes, monetary claims and damages.
Speeches On the 31 March 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali delivered a speech on the benefits of Mediation and gave examples of successful mediations at a symposium held at the Suddie Supreme Court, Essequibo. On the 1st April 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali delivered a speech promoting the benefits of Mediation and gave examples of successful mediations at a symposium held at New Amsterdam, Berbice. A substantial portion of the speech on Mediation was published under the title AN INTRODUCTION TO MEDIATION in The New Guyana Bar Review Volume 2 Issue 1: May 2008 (A Guyana Bar Association publication).
Arbitration Ms. Jamela A. Ali was also involved in Arbitration proceedings with an International Company Sociedade De Construcoes Soares Da Costa S.A. from Portugal and the Attorney General on behalf of the Government of Guyana.
Mediation Training and Qualifications Certificate in Mediator Skills Training In 2003, Ms. Jamela Ali successfully completed a twenty four hours course in Mediator Skills Training which was conducted by the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana & the Carter Center of Atlanta, USA and received a Certificate. Trainers included Canadian, American and Caribbean Mediators, Mr. Richard J. Moore, President of MDR Associates Conflict Resolution Inc. Canada, Mr. Steven Weller of Policy Studies Inc., Colorado, USA and Ms. Deborah Mendez-Bowen of Trinidad. Mediation Training Session On the 7 April 2004, Ms. Jamela A. Ali also attended a follow up training session for all mediators on the Court Roster which was conducted by Messrs. Steven Weller and Richard J. Moore. Refresher Course in Mediation On the 29 and 30 March 2006, Ms. Jamela A. Ali attended a Refresher Course in Mediation held by the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana, the GBA and USAID-GDCCR to encourage the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation in Guyana in which Ms. Donna Parchment was the key presenter. Professor Britton from UG was also a presenter. During the period 28 November 2007 to 1 December 2007, Ms. Jamela A. Ali attended 32 hours Advanced Mediation Training conducted by Mr. Richard J. Moore, LL.B., C. Med., C. Arb. from MDR Associates Conflict Resolution Inc., Ottawa, Canada on behalf of USAID-GDCCR Project & the High Court of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana and was awarded a Certificate on Completion.
MEDIATION TRAINER Certificate as Mediation Trainer During the period 26 March 2008 to 29 March 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali participated in a 32 hours Training of Trainers Workshop conducted by Richard Moore, LL.B C. Med., C. Arb. and Steven Weller, J.D, PhD on behalf of USAID-GDCCR Project & the High Court of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana and was awarded a Certificate on Completion. Certificate as Faculty Member During the four day period 2 April 2008 to 5 April 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali was involved as a Mediation Trainer of a group of 26 Mediators and was appointed as a Faculty Member and awarded a Certificate for service as faculty in Advanced Mediation Training of Mediators. Facilitator/Trainer In May 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali was appointed by USAID GDCCR to serve as a Facilitator for the training of Mediators in the Advanced Mediation Training Course (32 hours) of 21 Mediators held during the period 14 to 17 May 2008 and was awarded a Certificate for service as faculty. Ms. Ali also participated in the training of Mediators in a Basic Mediation Training Course for Justices of Peace (JPs) and Commissioners of Oath (32 hours) held during the period 21 to 24 May 2008 and was awarded a Certificate for service as faculty. On the 17 June 2009, Ms. Ali was appointed as a Facilitator by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) to conduct a Public Consultation on the Draft Standard Specification for the Labelling of Retail Packages of Tobacco Products. See Kaieteur News 18 June 2009 Article. On the 30 June 2009, she followed up as Facilitator/Chairperson at a Technical Committee of GNCB to arrive at a consensus.
Conferences, Workshop, Symposiums attended Mediation Meeting On the 31 March 2004, Mr. Steven Weller held a follow up meeting on Mediation which was attended by Ms. Jamela A. Ali. Mediation/Case Management Workshop In February 2005, Ms. Jamela A. Ali attended a Mediation/Case Management Workshop in which the key presenters were Master Robert Beaudoin of the Superior Court of Justice, Ottawa, Canada and Mr. Ian Stauffer, Barrister and Judge of the Small Claims Court, Carleton, Canada. Symposium ADR and Mediation On the 27 March 2006, Ms. Jamela A. Ali also participated in a two hour symposium held by the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana, GBA and USAID-GDCCR to encourage the use of ADR and Mediation in Guyana. Ms. Donna Parchment, an ADR Consultant and CEO, Dispute Resolution Foundation, Jamaica gave an overview of Mediation. Symposium in Essequibo On the 31 March 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali participated in a two hour symposium to encourage the use of ADR and Mediation in Guyana which was held at the Suddie Supreme Court, Essequibo and sponsored by the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana, GBA and USAID-GDCCR. She delivered a speech on the benefits of Mediation and gave examples of successful mediations. Symposium in Berbice On the 1st April 2008, Ms. Jamela A. Ali attended a two hour symposium to encourage the use of ADR and Mediation in Guyana which was held at New Amsterdam, Berbice and was sponsored by the Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana, the GBA and USAID-GDCCR. Conference in Trinidad During the period 9-12 July 2009, Ms. Ali participated in the American and Caribbean Law Initiative (ACLI) Conference on Dispute Resolution and Restorative Justice in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and received a Certificate of Participation.
